If I understand this right and this is the correct piece of code, the user is introduced to cards based on the length of their kimariji and length of the 2nd verse key characters. I think it might be nicer to sort cards like for example here: https://www.excd.jp/fuda/kimariji.html

So in order of first character of the poem being むすめふさほせうつしもゆいちひきはやよかみたこおわなあ in this order. This order is also commonly used during memorization phase, see for example: https://old.reddit.com/r/Karuta/comments/i6lbfc/the_video_of_my_teammate_sweeping_cards_on/g47m6n8/

This way (for instance) you learn poem きみ・は and きみ・お directly after each other. Of course, this is just a subjective opinion but I wanted to make sure y�ou had the chance to consider it.
