In the next update of the app, I'd love it to incorporate service areas in addition to the 1-3 mile Euclidean buffers that currently exist. MT has methods for creating walk isochrones which is great! I'd be a proponent of the following service area distances:
10-minute driving distance (see this in many of the regional plans, ie. Pine Point)
20-minute driving distance (also in several plans, and a key driving distance that we are using in our UrbanSim model)
45-minute transit distance (a key distance in our UrbanSim model)
Considerations:
for driving/transit distances, I think NON-peak time travel would be the best source for the travel skims
unclear how easily MT walking isochrones might be adapted to driving/transit distances. UrbanSim's Pandana might be another tool to use here. Of course possible in ArcGIS, but would prefer open-source ways if possible.....
