home overlay mender update

Hi Guys,
I dont quite understand the scope of the mender update with regards to the overlay file-system like /home.
I see the /home is part of the rootfs image, I have added a file to the /home and it exists in my rootfs image (.squashfs rootfs) when checking externally.
Now, when I update using the mender, I dont see this file being updated. I deliberately deleted a file in the /home and I dont see its coming back with the mender update.

Is this handled only during the doflash.sh once and then mender doesn't touch it again?

Nevermind, not an issue, understand what is happening and it totally makes sense.
