We made an early design decision to use forums in place of product category flair (rifle/pistol/ammo/parts/etc.) to minimize new features and accelerate launch. This decision has created additional complexity with new feature implementations (vendor rate limits had to be implemented site-wide, each individual category now has it's own "modmail". etc.), and precludes us from expansion to any other interest areas outside of Gundeals.

At some point, we may to develop a path for migrating back to the original design intent of the forums, likely by creating a proper submission flair system and merging existing forums into one.

Goals:

  • Transition necessary site-wide "nautbot" services (e.g. rate limiting, blacklisting, etc.) and modmail features to be forum-specific;
  • Create proper submission flair functionality;
  • Migrate all existing submissions to single /r/Gundeals forum and assign flair;
  • Eliminate existing category-specific forums.

That will ba a pain to do after we have data, how much do we need to change now to make this work for v1?

Probably worth a discussion now. Seems we're creating a lot of work to be done later, just so we wouldn't have to deal with submission flair right now.
