How long is the JPL model valid for ? #373
-
Hello Chris, While trying to fix our offline model (still not working correctly), I launched our GNSS toolbox that I had not used in days, and it still deployed correctly using the last JPL model. So I'm asking, initially I thought this would require daily internet access, but it looks like it is valid for longer than that |

Hello Guillaume, JPL publishes the new Earth Orientation Parameters daily. However, the publication contains three months of predictions (I think, but it might be longer). So the data published today for example will be valid until 10 March 2025. In the case of orbit determination, that is enough precision. In the case of GPS research and astronomy, it might not be enough. It might be useful to plot the difference in quaternions between a prediction from several months ago and a recent one. Also note that yesterday I couldn't reach the JPL servers, I think that might have been because of the fires in Los Angeles since JPL was evacuated. |

👍 thank you very much, I'm working on the new version of the docs, I will adapt it to the information you just provided
very interesting. I still have to conclude exploitation of signal phase for very good instantaenous accuracy. But afterwards I will be particularly interested in long term performances and very long averaging, I suspect this kind of phenomena will impact at this point
