Refactor/simplify git name rev #920

Conversation

git name-rev has some scripting-friendly options which avoid the need to use cut.

This builds on top of #919, to avoid merge conflicts.

If #919 is not merged, I can re-open this as a standalone PR, if desired.

Apparently, --stdin is already deprecated in favor of --annotate-stdin in recent version of git.

So probably the original method is more versatile across different git versions, so I'll close this PR.
